Visual Memory: rules and examples

Visual Memory gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Select every square that was shown. Selecting an unshown square ends the session. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Check the rule that explains your first action. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

One thing to notice as you play

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Make the next step deliberately.

The purpose of your moves

Select every square that was shown. Selecting an unshown square ends the session. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Work through the instructions

  1. Start a round and watch the highlighted cells.
  2. Wait until the board hides the pattern.
  3. Select the positions you remember; order does not matter.
  4. Complete the pattern to advance.

Input guidance

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

Follow the example

If the four corner squares were shown, select those four corners in any order. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Notice the change in the playing area.

Watch out for this

Unlike Sequence Memory, this game does not require the original order. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
